Bernard Johns
Bernard Johns is a Certified Peer Support Specialist and Community Health Worker dedicated to supporting individuals in reentry, recovery, and personal growth. With extensive experience facilitating groups in correctional facilities and counseling those with substance abuse challenges, he brings a deep understanding of trauma-informed care, restorative justice, and crisis intervention. His certifications in medical peer support, ACEs, and community health work reinforce his commitment to serving justice-impacted individuals. Currently, he is developing the SafeStart Housing Initiative, a nonprofit focused on providing housing support for reentering individuals.
Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Behavioral Science at the University of Arizona Global Campus, Bernard balances his professional and educational pursuits with his role as a father of three adult children. His journey from incarceration to advocacy underscores a profound dedication to social change. At San Diego City College, he actively supports inclusivity for justice-impacted individuals through his work with Justice that Restores.
