Leadership is Learning
“Leadership and Learning are indispensable to each other.” – John F. Kennedy
Nonprofit Solutions started in 1991 to provide management services to nonprofits. Our mission is to help you achieve your mission. Over the decades, this service has evolved to focus primarily on management training. In 2016, Mindful Manager was born, expanding and deepening the Supervisory Skills program.
Why has a management service organization morphed into a professional development organization? Because that is how leaders achieve their missions: never stop learning.
Today Nonprofit Solutions’ tagline is “Learn – Connect – Grow” because that is the core of what we offer. We begin with Learn because, as JFK stated, leadership and learning are interdependent. Lifelong learning is the key to success, no matter where you are in your leadership journey.
A guiding principle we teach is Growth Mindset and the radical concept of “Not Yet.” What skills or talents do you envy in others and think you lack? Reframe those thoughts to a Growth Mindset dedicated to learning…You don’t know how to have difficult conversations yet. You don’t have effective time/attention management strategies yet. You don’t have confidence in your leadership abilities yet. Believe you can learn it all. And let us help you.
Talk to your HR department to join the Mindful Manager certificate program: a series of 10 workshops (taken in any order) designed to keep you learning as the leaders you are destined to be. We are taking a brief break the first week in April, then we start second quarter programming, so check our workshop schedule. April sessions are filling up fast. May and June classes coming soon.
MINDFUL MINUTE:
At the beginning of every Mindful Manager workshop, we take a “Mindful Minute” to center ourselves, get present, and focus on our intentions for being there. We encourage you to use this routine throughout your workday: when you turn on your computer, at the beginning of a meeting, before an important phone call. Take 60 seconds, to breathe and turn off the mental chatter. You will be amazed at the subtle and critical difference this makes. Be open to what the next activities will teach you. Be always open to Learn.
