Bernard Johns
Bernard Johns is currently Regional Coordinator for the Rising Scholars Network through the Foundation for California Community Colleges. Previously, he served as a Certified Peer Support Specialist and Community Health Worker dedicated to supporting justice-impacted individuals in reentry, recovery, and personal growth. With extensive experience facilitating groups in correctional facilities and counseling those with substance abuse challenges, he brings a deep understanding of trauma-informed care, restorative justice, and crisis intervention. His certifications in medical peer support, ACEs, and community health work reinforce his commitment to serving justice-impacted individuals. He is also developing the SafeStart Housing Initiative, a nonprofit focused on providing housing support for reentering individuals.
Bernard balances his professional and educational pursuits with his role as a father of three adult children. He completes his Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Behavioral Science at the University of Arizona Global Campus in May 2025, and will begin his Master’s Degree in Organizational Management. His journey from incarceration to advocacy underscores a profound dedication to social change.
